Since 2010, Viral Accounts has provided a safe marketplace for buying and selling popular social properties. Our staff goes to great lengths to ensure that each property sold isn’t stolen, and we try our best to make sure that these assets are secure for our clients. We secure these account to the best of our ability, however, we’re limited to the security provided by the social platform, in this case, Instagram. Instagram is still young, and it is riddled with loopholes / exploits, which sometimes give previous owners the ability to recover the account. ViralAccounts.com is aware of most recovery methods, and will not purchase a property unless they’re all closed. Unfortunately, Instagram still has many exploits we’re unaware of, therefore we cannot be held liable in case of any losses. Unlike Facebook fanpages, Instagram accounts can still be recovered without any actual exploits, simply by contacting Instagram support. Now there is a small chance of that happening, as their support is almost non-existent, but still, the risk is there.
Our process of verifying and securing accounts:
Full owner verification
ViralAccounts.com collects names, phone numbers, and links to personal social profiles (Facebook) to check the history of the user. If a seller wants to stay anonymous, that is a huge red flag for us, and we will decline the transaction. We even go as far as verifying their friends list (family members / etc.websites) and save it for the future, in case we run into problems.
We will not purchase from anyone who has an unverified Paypal account.
We scour underground websites to see if the property has been listed on popular hacker sites and if so, we will decline the purchase. Accounts sold sites are at much higher risk of being pulled back. We also check Google cache to verify fan count, along with stats and comments on old photos.
Closing recovery loopholes
When you change an email or password on a Instagram account, the company will send a confirmation email to the old inbox on file. That emails contains a link that allows to reverse the e-mail change, this feature was created in case of a hostile hacker takeover. ViralAccounts.com forces sellers to forward that email to us, and we close the recovery method by clicking the link and marking the change as safe. This link expires after this confirmation, so once the recovery is fixed the previous owner cannot retrieve the account via this method.
Additional security measures
ViralAccounts.com has also devised proprietary methods used to secure these accounts, however, they cannot be listed here. Exposing our methods would only give potentials scammers and hackers the know how on how to circumvent them.
Other recovery methods include e-mailing Instagram support, however, we have no control over that. We do our best to eliminate that risk, mostly thanks to our experience and good old-fashioned gut feeling. We generally only purchase properties from people who have ran accounts out of pure joy, not marketers or resellers. This method has proven over the years to weed out the bad apples, but keep in mind even we’re humans, and from time to time mistakes can happen.
FOR THE REASONS MENTIONED ABOVE WE DON’T OFFER ANY WARRANTY WHAT-SO-EVER. BUYING / SELLING SOCIAL PROPERTIES IS A RISKY BUSINESS. MOST SOCIAL PLATFORMS FROWN UPON SELLING ACCOUNTS, AND FROM TIME TO TIME THEY REMOVE / DELETE / RECOVER SUSPECTED ACCOUNTS. VIRALACCOUNTS.COM HAS NO CONTROL OVER THIS, THEREFORE WE CANNOT PROVIDE ANY LONG TERM PROTECTION. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO KEEP ALL SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM SAFE.
Tips to keep your account secure after purchase:
- Login to your new account.
- Change the account e-mail.
- Change the account password.
- Add phone number, verify pin.
- Login to your Facebook account, and remove the Instagram app from your applications list. (If you have one installed)
- Link your Facebook account to your new Instagram account.
- Ask the seller for the link Instagram sends out to the previous e-mail, click it and confirm that the change is approved. Keep in mind that for reasons unknown sometimes Instagram fails to send this email. If this happens repeat all the steps above, but change the email to a different one. If everything goes correctly you will receive the reversal link in your first inbox. Once you approve the change it will nullify any previous reversal links associated with the account.
